Our History

Ted Merloo and his French wife Emma established this business in 1940. Ted was an English Pharmacist and a former employee of Helena Rubenstein. For the next 30 years the Merloos produced and retailed perfumes and skin care products from their chemist shop in Nairobi, Kenya.

When Kenya gained independence the Merloos relocated to Melbourne, Australia.

The business, then known as TEM Perfumes & Cosmetics had been operating for over 48 years when Merinda Hewat-Cameron purchased the business in April 1989.

In 1998 the business name was then changed to Melbourne Perfume Company to prepare for export and in 2001 a Head Office was opened in Sydney, Australia.

In 2002 Melbourne Perfume Company was honoured to win an "Australian Micro Business Award".

The Future

My name is Peter Murray and I purchased the Melbourne Perfume Company from Merinda in 2010. My daughter Katherine, Jeff Jackel and myself are enjoying our new venture and we are looking forward to continuing the companies traditions of manufacturing fine fragrances.

All of our fragrances are oil based and a re made here in Australia using the finest French essences to Eau De Parfum strength before being matured.

We trust you will have as much pleasure and enjoyment wearing our fragrances as we do making them for you.

Melbourne Perfume Company is an exciting range of high quality fragrances with all the subtle magic of many of the world's most exclusive perfumes, offered to you at a fraction of Designer prices. Using only the finest ingredients sourced from the South of France our fragrances are oil based, eau de parfum strength and matured to last 6-7 hours.

Our perfume & cologne range has been inspired by the top fragrance houses of the world. We have not copied their fragrances, but created our own fragrance using some of the notes and ingredients from these well known houses.

In 2010 we re-branded Melbourne Perfume Company to strengthen our brand and drive our company into the future. Along with our new look e-commerce web site our entire product range now carries a strong distinctive logo and colour theme.
